Bunga Tanjung - Datuk Sharifah Aini

Bunga tanjung putih berseri
Kembang jelita harum baunya
Gagah sungguh pohonmu berdiri
Tegap rimbun gagah perkasa

Harum jelita si bunga suci
Idaman dara gadis rupawan
Sangat sombongnya bungamu menari
Melenggang-lenggok dihujung dahan

Walaupun engkau si bunga tanjung
Hiasan sanggul gadis rupawan
Tiadalah kamu sangat beruntung

Bagai melati
Bagai melati dilembah sana
Lihatlah senyuman kembang melati
Disunting kelana hati...
Di lembah sunyi

Lihatlah pula bunga teratai
Dijunjung musafir lambai melambai

Sungguh nasibmu si bunga tanjung
Bagai cahaya ditutup mendung
Tiadalah tangan menyunting kamu
Menunggu gugur di angin lalu
Malang dudukmu di dahan tinggi
Kini bertabur di atas bumi

== wonder why i put this song? fyn, ask ur mum to sing for ya. hehe. it's a really nice, meaningful song. i just heard it on tv and then i asked my mum about the song. it's really interesting. does anyone know what a bunga tanjung is? it's a small, nice flower, very sweet smelling, usually used as a decorative "sanggul". i've seen it before at my aunt's place at woodlands. well, unfortunately, this nice and sweet smelling flower is high on the branches. as such, it's hard to pick. thus, it's labeled "sombong". and it usually ends up on the ground, lepas ia "gugur". teratai is also the same. teratai is the floating flower. forgot what it's called in english. but it's the one floating in ponds, i think. usually ponds. well, same concept, it's hard to get.

in the song, seorang gadis rupawan diibaratkan sebagai bunga tanjung. referring back to what i have explained, according to my mum, here goes: "bunga tanjung tu diibaratkan sebagai seorang perempuan cantik yang susah nak dapat. sombong. orang nak tapi dia jual mahal. akhirnya sendirian."

interesting right? analogies...i love analogies. there's another song, bunga teratai. but i can't find the lyrics.

c y'all soon. tataz.
